Turn Aside And Look

Updated: May 22

Bush fires are common in desert regions. Moses must have seen quite a few during his wilderness stay. In fact, some Bible scholars believe that it might have taken him days or even weeks to notice anything unusual about this particular bush fire. What made this one stand out to him was the fact that the bush was on fire, but it wasn't burning up.

What fascinates me about this story however isn't the miracle of the burning bush itself, amazing as that was. It's the fact that the Bible says God waited — potentially for days or weeks, until Moses turned aside to look at the unusual sight before He spoke to him. (Exodus 3:4)

God is vying for our attention in the midst of a very noisy world. He wants to speak to us but not until He gets our full attention lest He wastes His words.

You might feel frustrated watching others have their ‘burning bush experiences’ while you feel stuck. But have you stopped to look? Does God have your full attention?

Often we think we’re waiting on God, but maybe God is waiting on us. Maybe He’s waiting for us to turn aside and look. To give Him our undivided attention.

The Hebrews writer admonishes us to , “..fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.” (Hebrews 12:2)

As a child of God, you need to understand that there is a daily battle for your attention.

Don’t be distracted by the vanity fair.

Our first goal is to develop the habit of giving God our full attention.

David’s primary quest was to “gaze upon the beauty of the Lord.” (Psalm 27:4)

It’s time to declutter your life and give God your uninterrupted attention. Only then can we make any real headway with Him.

God bless you.
